Recording PSG
I've been toying around with recording and everything sounds kinda stale to me. I thought that it must be my newbie playing, so I had someone record me at a live show and was pleasantly surprised-the amp sounds like I thought it did to my ears (vibrosonic (or NV112) & fingertip). Any advice would be great as sticking a microphone in front of it and pressing record just doesn't sound like what's coming out of the amp.

Try experimenting with different mics if you have them.
Experiment with mic placement (angles/distance).
Finally, try placing your amp/mic in different rooms and see if you can come up with something that you like.
I like to place my amp in a different room from where I'm sitting at my steel. Then I run the mic cable from the room with my amp into the room with my mixer and studio monitors.
This allows me to hear what my pedal steel sounds like through my studio monitors.
