A Georgia Soldier will be laid to rest on Saturday, 17 April
I would like to ask that all forum members say a prayer for LTC(R) Deacon and his wife LTC(R) Sharon Collins of Tyrone, Ga because they will be laying their son 1LT Robert Collins to rest on Saturday, 17 April. Robert along with his driver, PFC Blount, of Massachuetts were killed on 7 April near Mosul, Iraq during a IED attack. Robert was a platoon leader in the 1st Bn, 64th Armor Regiment from Ft Stewart. Robert was 2008 graduate of West Point and was the first member of his class to be killed in combat.
Robert's body is expected to arrive today around 12:00 at Falcon Field in Peachtree City, Ga and will be escort by his Dad and members of the Patriot Guard to Parrott Funeral Home in Fairburn.
Robert's funeral will be on Saturday, at the New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville and internment will be in Newnan.
I would ask that at 10:00am EST on Saturday that everyone observed a moment of silence in honor of Robert, the Blount family, the Collins family, the members of Robert's unit and the other brave Americans who are in service to this country.

I would like to thank everyone for their condolences, I will pass on your heartfelt thanks later on today when I go to the visitation. If anyone would be interested in reading Robert's obituary, you can visit the Atlanta Journal/Constitution web site. There is also a video of the arrival of Robert's body yesterday on CBS Atlanta.

I went to Robert's visitation yesterday evening. There were over 300 plus people present. I stood in line for an hour and a half before I got to the room where Robert was lying in state. As a token of my respect to Robert and his family, I took four small American Flags with me. I gave two to Robert's fiance (one was for her and the other was for Robert), I gave a flag to his Mother and the other one to his Dad. I hope that there will be a time sometime soon where we do not lose anymore brave Americans. God Bless, Deacon and Sharon during their time of loss and God Bless Robert and his driver, PFC Blount for serving this great Nation.

Condolences for a fallen hero. I cannot imagine the bravery one must have to face the daily challenges of a solider overseas.

Another hero laid to rest in my hometown. These stories are becoming all too common.......
U.S. Army Sgt. Sean Michael Durkin was laid to rest Thursday in his hometown of Easton following a funeral service at Phillipsburg Alliance Church.
The Rev. Randall Nelson said Durkin's sacrifice was one born of love for his comrades and love for his country. “It’s a love that may cost you your life,” he said.
Durkin died April 9 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., after being wounded March 27 by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan. He was 24.
