Using hot spot monitor speakers

On a small stage set up, wouldn't three or four of the hot spot speakers on mic stands, placed right, work ok as monitors (for vocals only) rather than the larger floor speakers ? Would appreciate comments. Thanks.

I'm not sure what hot spot monitors are (excuse my ignorance on the subject) but it seems to me that they would work fine for a live performance if you are using a unidirectional mic. However, for recording I bet you'd get a lot of bleed into the vocal track from live monitors.
For a recording, you want as much separation between tracks as possible... otherwise mixing become quite a challenging proposition. I've mixed quite a few sessions that were recorded live and never been extremely pleased with the reults because of the bleedover. EQing live tracks is a mixed bag to be kind about it.

Thanks for the input David. This will not be in a studio but on a rather small stage for a live performance where I'd rather not use the larger floor monitor speakers.

We have three of these that we use on stage. They work good but they are for close or "personal" monitors, get too far away and they can't really be heard.

That's what we'd use them for Jack, persoal monitors. Three on three mics for singer's vocals and one for drummer. Sounds like they might be just the checker. -

One of the duos I work with we use them and I love it. I rn my stee direct into the mixer and get some of the best one I have ever got. I'm really turing into a small speaker guy all the way around. And we don't have feedback problems at all.

The ones we used at church worked very well. Each musician could adjust the volume to his/her own preference without interfering with anyone else. Then the music went "contemporary", (contemptable) and the individual monitor speakers became useless. So did I .

Bill,

I use a hot spot and a Yorkville 15 with a horn in our duo. I need two as we are running stereo output and have our mix panned. The hot spot is mounted directly in front of my keyboard which is in front of me and the Yorkville is on my right side on the floor angled up towards me.

I use it as a monitor and also to provide me with the front of house mix as we don't have a sound man and we're not overly loud.

I don't send it through a monitor channel either, it is a direct send from one of the speaker outputs on the rear of the amp. There is lots of power - 800 watts per side and the hotspot has been there for more than 8 years now and running a full foh mix through it.

Before adding in our crossover, it used to carry the full mix but since the crossover has been added there are no lows below 240hz going through it, they go to the bass subs.

The first year the hot spot company came to a namm show i was working a gig in a club next to the place where the show was. They asked us if they could bring in a set up to demo...sure! They were amazing. Only work within close proximity...that is what they are designed for. When the show was over...they gave all the hot spots to us...nice gesture for us letting folks see them in action.
