Anyone still use DAT tapes? If yes, I'll follow up with why I ask.

Yes. Believe it or not I still only use DAT and ADAT tapes. I just can't make the big move to computer based recording and I still do a few sessions on this old format and just convert to MP3 to send tracks to folks.

I have an old Tascam DAT machine that still works very well.....knock on plaatic!

Tascam DA-30. I don't use it much but it works and sounds great.

I don't use DAT much any more at all, no one seems to need anything on that medium. So, consequently, I have a Tascam Da-30 MKII in excellent condition for sale should anyone need one...

Reason I ask is I have a bunch (mostly 15-19 and 30-35-minute) of used DAT tapes that don't seem to be worth selling. I've long ago sold a lot of NOS surplus tape. Used (probably only one project per tape) in broadcast audio. Wasn't sure if anyone could use these as work tapes. (The inner part of a lot of these probably hasn't been touched.) I think I have 80+ of the 30-35 length (various mfrs.) and 100+ of the 15-19s.

I have a Machine which I'll probably keep to transfer some radio airchecks of mine and some Prairie Home Companions recorded at the non-pro 32KHz sampling rate (2x recording time). But I don't see using my DAT recorder for much else.

I may entertain trades or offers for the tapes if anyone cares...

I ran on to some of my old dat masters in multi track format that were from the original fostex hard disk recorders and that was their main backup medium so my old dat machine was doa and my pal Winston May sent me his old fostex to see if would do the job and then I got my leg problems and it's still setting in the box in my studio :-)

Winston if you read this I will get to those old tapes one of these days and let you know if I was able to get the tapes off loaded to my computer. But I had many masters saved to dat tape and I will probably run them off as well if any of them are worth saving .....
