Computer Recording for Dummies Question

Post by Jeff Neal »

Hello, this has probally been ask a thousand times but how do I get started recording on my computer. I recieved this recording interface for Chritmas and have no idea what to do with it.

It is an Alesis multimix 8 that records directly to ipod or can be used on a computer via USB connections. I have alreday used the ipod part which is pretty simple.

My problem is that you can't stack tracks on the ipod. It only records what is plugged in at the time.
I need to know how to get music into the computers hard drive. I just bought a new Desktop with a quad core processor 4gb of memory, 500gb hard drive
Imageso this should be enough.

It came with CUBASE LE4 software. Can anyone help?

If you can get Adobe Audition 3 , it works a dream with what you got there and pretty easy to use. do a search on the forum for more on the subject.

Cubase LE 4 is a nice recording platform. there are better, but free is free. I use Cubase Essential 4.
I am not sure how you hook up your gear to computer. I use a digital interface. but hey, isn't that what you have.?
take a look at http://www.tweakheadz.com

and you could try the Cubase/Steinberg support forum.

I am unfamiliar with your unit. sorry.

install the drivers (the disk) that came with your multimix on your computers... the manual will give you the step by step. Check for updates on the internet. If your unit was not 'bundled' with recording software, I'd suggest Reaper if you are on a pc and garageband if you are on a mac.

http://www.reaper.fm/purchase.php

Reaper costs 50.00 although they have a free trial. It is a great product, very simple to use and there is an active forum for help, you tube 'lessons' etc...

it should give you what you need.

if you need help with garageband, the help menu in that application links you to instructional videos etc... I'd also be happy to help you, pm me if you need to.
