Which PCI card for pro tools fire wire ?
I need to find out which PCI card is best for Pro Tools.
I have a PC not a lap top that I need to put a card in. I guess the line I am trying OR NEEDING to hook to my PC is a fire wire.
Thanks
Tommy

Any Firewire external hard drive will be recognised as an audio volume by Pro Tools, so any PCI card with a Firewire port will be fine.
This is a different issue from the fact that Basic Pro Tools needs a suitable interface, and only works with one of the Digidesign range (M Box, 003)
Pro Tools M Powered will work with an M Audio interface, and if you go for a Firewire box, as well as an external drive, you'll need a PCi card with two Firewire ports. M Audio interfaces can be either PCI based, or USB as well.
Hope this helps

Here's a list. This is a UK site, but there must be similar in the US.

Tommy, Look for a store that builds PC's in your area. They'll most likely have what you need. You might want to pick up another hard drive while you're there too, unless you already have a spare drive or 2. You might look at the specs for the MBox to see what type of firewire card it needs. I don't use ProTools myself, so I can't help you there.

Jerry is right, too--be sure and run your audio on a separate firewire drive...
The firewire drives that Pacific Pro Audio sells are spec'ed for ProTools use and really scream...
