recording audio from DVD to my computer??

Is there any way I can play a DVD on my computer, and record the audio to my computer? How would I save the audio from the DVD to my computer? Thanks

Bent , there are restrictions unless you buy it. but I found this and it is free...also I have tried it and it works fine, not bad for free...

Thanks John. I downloaded the link you gave me above. When I try to start the program, a window pops up and says, "there is no source file ready"
please add a source file" What does that mean? As you can tell, I'm ignorant when it comes to computers. Thanks for your help.

On the right side, download Easy Hi-Q recorder.

This will record whatever you are playing on your computer. No catches. Works great. You can record things as MP3 or Ogg or Wav or WMA. No length limit.

Terry, In order to extract the audio you will need a dvd or some other video file. Click on Add File , if you have a dvd in the drive you will need to direct the program to you dvd drive, or if you have the video file on your computer then you will navigate to where they are. you can go to there website and read instructions on how to use this program...John

Thanks John. While I was waiting for a reply from you, I tried Ken's link, and lo and behold I got the audio from disk one of my DVD. There are two disks in this instructional DVD. I've got the first disk recorded on my computer. But, I've tried the 2nd disk the same way, and I can't get it to record for nothing. I've tried 3 times and can't get it to record. What am I doing wrong here?

Download the free recorder called 'Audacity'.

On most computers, but not all, Audacity will record the DVD audio (or any input signal, for that matter, eg, radio, guitar, speech etc) in real time, as the DVD is playing.

Well, I finally got my 2 DVD's recorded to my computer, audio that is. I used the Easy Hi Q recorder, that seemed to be the easiest. for me.

Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/is a Free program that will let you record "anything that you can hear coming out of your computer speakers." I use it any time I want to record songs from youtube vid clips. Greg

ahh..you guys should just break down and buy one of the small MP3/Wave recorders.

ZOOM, Edirol etc... record anything from any source..PC, Internet,LIVE, DVD ,CD...record to an SD card and use the USB interface and away you go.

Bring it with you in the car, take it to a gig etc.., these are just WAY TOO convenient and easy to use.

I have two of these things, they are part of my life's journey thru music now.

And, they have a DELETE mode just in case you don't like what you hear !

My Edirol R-1 sits right here next to the PC and the Boss Micro sits over where I practice and record.

Break down you cheapskates !

The Edirol R-1 was common a year or two back, replaced by R-9. You should still be able to locate R-1's but I think there are others that are a tad cheaper and do the exact same thing such as the ZOOM H-2.

I paid $350 for my R-1 maybe two years ago. You can also record LIVE MP3 with a BOSS Micro BR,( SD card and USB) it has a mono mic on board but you can use an external Stereo mic as well. I paid $199 for the Micro BR .

Keep in mind that the Boss unit only records in 3 different MP3 ranges, 64, 128 and 192. Not a problem, just an awareness factor. For a band rehearsal I would record in 64 mode anyway. 128 is a standard compression where 192 offers a bit more quality.

The Boss unit, because it is a 4 track recorder, which includes a drum programmer and multi effects, has a tad higher learning curve but a great tool non the less. It is meant to be a 4 track recorder first. Personally, I think this is the best $200 I have ever spent, even better than the NY City 2nd ave Steak House !

Lots of options... lots of GREAT options !
