I just saw your post tonight. I have been using one of these for a few years now. They're a pain to get set up if you don't follow directions. But once installed, they're sweet.

Most MOTU stuff is certainly pro quality.
This unit too, but some high end gear does
have better clock timing.
But for MUCH higher prices.

Brad Sarnu has a contact for these units
that fixes up the timing to a higher level
of anti-jitter etc.

If you order one, likely it is worth sending
there directly for the mods, in the USA,
and then on to yourself.

Might not be great for the warrenty of course,
but better for the SOUND.
Your call.

There was a thread in electronics or here
a bit back about this.
Email Brad for details.

Real happiness has no strings attached.
But pedal steels have many!

No need for any kind of mod on mine. I wouldn't bother.

I have one in my MOTU array(actually it's just the 24i)along with a 2408 MKIII and a MTP AV midi box and sync/clock. I've made some extremely hi fidelity recordings with that stock 24i as an input converter. The trick is to use hi quality mics and mic preamps as a front end - that's where you have to spend your money. If you don't have those, you're just passing along a poor sound to all the gear that follows.A $100 Chinese faux U87 thru a Behringer mic pre is not gonna give you much to work with.Of course a good singer singing a good arrangement of a good song helps but the better all that is,it can sometimes just serve to underline the weaknesses of your signal chain.
