One player/instructor that I heard at Dallas show who can make this instrument sound like a screaming blues guitar is Don Curtis. You can contact him at Scotty's Music. He rocks.

One start is to move your chord positions up three frets. This gives you the minotr third scale which is one blues mainstay. Also move back two frets and use the BC pedals. this gives you the Dorian mode another blues mainstay.
In A one nice lick is to use the C pedal off and on as follows. I'm just showing the top 6 7 sstrings as these have many a lick
<font face="monospace" size="2"><pre>
Fret 1 2 3 3 3
---------------------------X---------
2-----------------x------------------
3------------------------------------
4-------- --X~C---------x~c------------------
5------------------------------------
6---------------------------------------
7-----------------------------------------
</pre></font>
repeat. Leave both string ring withour blocking
<font face="monospace" size="2"><pre>
Fret 3 3 3
------------------------------------
2-----------------------------------
3------------------------------------
4-----------X~C~X----------------------
5------X~b------------------------------
6--------------------------------------
7------------------X-----------------------
</pre></font>
