That singer is another new one for me but I'm gonna guess Sonny Burnett on steel.

I think the singer is Faron Young, the steeler might be Jimmy Crawford.

When the esteemed Mr. Hinson says something flat out I just assume he knows for sure, he's always quick to say when he's just making an educated guess (and it's always a highly educated guess in his case!).

And I would think he was right anyway with this one...

The singer is for sure, Skeets McDonald. If the steeler is not Moon (which is sure sounds like), then how about Speedy....it sounds a lot like the steel behind Bobby Bare on his recordings for Capitol back in the 50's...and that was Speedy. If neither of them, well how about Marian Hall???

Well certainly west coast would count Sonny Burnnett out so how about Billy Mize on steel guitar.

But then I don't think Walter would call Billy Mize "one of the true legends of steel guitar today"; I'd say he's a little too overlooked and off the radar for that. Sure sounds great in this clip though...

But Mooney sure qualifies and he played with Skeets in those days...

I'm still with Steve on this one!

I agree with ya about Billy Mize not being among some of the legends so is it possible that the steel player on that song could by chance be Tom Brumley? Thats my third guess

Great clip, Walter, as always.

I had no idea who the player was, but I really enjoy the early pedal steel style, (i.e. Jack Evins, early Jimmy Day, etc.).

And now that you've given it away, the steel tone on this clip does sound like Mooney.
