When the esteemed Mr. Hinson says something flat out I just assume he knows for sure, he's always quick to say when he's just making an educated guess (and it's always a highly educated guess in his case!).

I wondered about Billy Mize too, here's a great clip of Skeets with Billy Mize on steel:

But then I don't think Walter would call Billy Mize "one of the true legends of steel guitar today"; I'd say he's a little too overlooked and off the radar for that. Sure sounds great in this clip though...
But Mooney sure qualifies and he played with Skeets in those days...
