repairing stringmaster
I have a rare stringmaster (D-8), serial#0268,26 1/2" scale. One of the tuning keys on the keyhead is worn. I sent it to Bobby Semour for repair, but it would have had to completly remachine the keyhead. It has round keys instead of button shape. I am a machinist, and I think I can repair it myself, but I am having a problem locating parts. JK Luther from Harrison, Ohio only had button type keys. Where can I get help fixing the guitar? Regards Manny Escobar

Manny,
You probably will have to replace the worm gears on that particular machine:
Hold a hot soldering iron to the side of the round thumb key (it is soldered on). Look for a pinion gear (I think that's what it's called) and a worm gear, with the same size shaft, from another machine. Cut the shaft to the correct size if it's too long. Put it together and resolder the thumb key back on.
